Testing Information Resources
Our high school offers several tests to help students prepare for life after graduation. These include the ACT, SAT, and ASVAB, along with other college and career readiness exams. These tests can open doors to college admissions, scholarships, and career pathways.
Information on test dates, registration, and preparation resources is available through the school counseling office. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities as they plan for their future.
National Career Readiness Certificate
The ACT NCRC is a portable, evidence-based credential that certifies the essential skills for workplace success. Employers look for it from job candidates, whether they come directly from high school, work-based learning programs, or through postsecondary paths, because it is a valid predictor of job performance.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.
PSAT Test
The PSAT is designed to measure the ability to understand and process elements of reading, writing, and mathematics. Students take the PSAT/NMSQT in their junior year to determine National Merit scholarship eligibility and to prepare for the SAT.
PSAT Test Date/Cost
There is a cost to the text, fee waivers are available for those who qualify. Please check with Mrs. Larson-Cutshaw for more information on the test or the fee waiver.
ACCUPLACER Test
The ACCUPLACER is a college placement test used by many colleges to help determine a student’s readiness for college-level courses. Unlike admissions tests like the ACT or SAT, ACCUPLACER helps schools place students in the right math, reading, and writing classes.
The test is computer-based, untimed, and adapts to each student’s skill level, which means the questions you see are based on your skill level. Your response to each question determines the difficulty level of the next question, so it’s important to give each question as much thought as you can before selecting your answer.
This test is a useful tool for planning your next steps after high school and making sure you start college on the right track.
ACT Test Information
ACT Test
South Dakota high school juniors will take the ACT instead of the Smarter Balanced assessment starting in 2025. The ACT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam that measures skills in English, math, reading, and science.
This change gives students the opportunity to take a test that not only fulfills state assessment requirements but also helps with college admissions, scholarships, and career planning. Test dates and preparation resources will be shared with students and families through the school counseling office.
Test Prep
Methodize is available at no cost to all South Dakota students in grades 9-12. This resource is provided by the South Dakota Department of Education and can be accessed through SDMyLife powered by Xello. Students and educators can simply log into their accounts and access Methodize at any time.
