Interviewed by Aidan Baer
What is your favorite classroom activity?
My favorite classroom activity with my students is incorporating any game I can to make the lesson more engaging.
Where and when did you graduate from college? What is your degree?
I graduated from Mount Marty College in Watertown in December 2016. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
What is your hometown? My hometown is Watertown, South Dakota.
How many years have you taught? This is my 5th year teaching.
How able are you to adjust to children’s strengths and weaknesses?
I feel that I am a flexible thinker, so I adjust fairly well on how to help students be successful. Every year, we face new challenges with students, but we try everything possible for students to be successful.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I think I would want to be able to talk to people in heaven or bring them back. I lost a lot of important people in my life that passed away too soon, and I would do anything to be able to bring them back.
What is your favorite meal from the cafeteria? My favorite meal from the cafeteria is pizza.
What are some superstitions or traditions do you have for the First Day of School?
On the first day of school, I always take a picture with my kids and dog. As for at the school, I just kind of go with the flow, and whatever I decide needs to be done that day, is what we do.
How do you think your students will remember you?
I hope students remember me by my encouragement and sometimes sarcasm that I throw at them. I know students will remember me by my competitiveness, being a 49ers fan, and a Duke Blue Devils fan because they are always stopping in when my teams lose.
What is your favorite color? My favorite color is green.
What originally made you want to be a teacher?
In my senior year of high school, I took a student teaching class and went into a 6th-grade classroom and loved it! The students and the teacher were awesome, and it made me decide that a teacher is what I want to be when I grow up.
What do you remember most about your first job?
My first job was waitressing and I remember how the people were. Some days people would walk in so crabby, and then you would meet the nicest people ever.
