As this school year comes to a close, I’d like to take a moment to share an exciting initiative that is helping shape the future of our school district in meaningful ways. Over the past year, we have partnered with Studer Education, a nationally respected organization that supports continuous improvement in education by helping schools build strong systems and positive culture.

In a world that often feels fast-paced and divided, the people of Deuel County continue to remind us what it truly means to come together.

The legislative session has concluded, bringing both challenges and concerns for public education in South Dakota. This year, state lawmakers approved a 1.25% increase in funding for public schools.

The Deuel School District will conduct registration for the 2025-2026 school year entirely online. To complete the process, every family must have an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.

February was a month of many celebrations. Most notably, February is celebrated in the world of education as CTE month.

Week 6 of the South Dakota State Legislature has concluded, with lawmakers narrowing their focus on four major issues that will shape the final three weeks of the session: property tax relief, prison funding and construction, carbon pipelines, and the state budget.

The Deuel School District is proud to join districts across South Dakota in celebrating School Board Recognition Week, taking place February 17-21.

The Deuel School District will be offering a Driver Education class in June for students who will be at least 14 years old by July 1, 2025. The cost of the class is $275, covering both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training.

I am pleased to share some positive news regarding public education in our state. House Bills 1009 and 1020, both of which aimed to expand school vouchers, were recently defeated in the House Education Committee.
